I spent more than 15 years in the film industry. It’s been second nature for me to hear the sound of what I see.
"My sound vision of…" is meant to add a temporal dimension to a static piece of art (painting, sculpture, etc.).
Each piece of art that has moved me creates a synesthesia effect in my brain.
Although an image is looked at as a whole, a soundtrack has a beginning and an end.
It needs to be heard from start to finish in order to be understood.
In "My sound vision of…", both our eyes and ears are needed.
It is not "a painting with an added soundscape" but an entity. Each individual component complements and enhances the other.
Sound is not a simple casing or frame to embellish what we see. It amplifies and sometimes transcends what we are looking at.
One sense alone is not enough to satisfy our emotions. It is the mix of the two that provides nuance and subtlety to what we feel. In a way, life is a ‘palette’ with a sound and visual rainbow.
Imagine if the sound in a Hitchcock movie was removed and "see" what’s left?
What’s left if you remove the sound of thunder during a big thunderstorm, only lightning.
Now Listen carefully.
